Stars Rested Tue 31st Oct 2000 11:02 Town look likely to rest a number of players when they meet Arsenal in the Worhtington Cup tomorrow. Mark Venus, James Scowcroft, Richard Naylor and Jim Magilton all missed training yesterday feeling the effects of Saturday's game with Middlesbrough. None seems to be in the 'injured' category exactly, however, George Burley has said he will not risk player in this competition. That means that Martijn Reuser, Titus Bramble and David Johnson and may all get starts against an Arsenal side likely to look very similar to the reserve side which beat the Town second string 3-0 two weeks ago. |
Burley Willing to Sell Scowy Mon 30th Oct 2000 15:06 George Burley is sending out mixed signals regarding his willingness to sell James Scowcroft to Leicester should any offer come in. |
Town to Move for Mullins Wed 25th Oct 2000 19:52 Town manager George Burley may be interested to discover that long-time Town target Hayden Mullins has been transfer-listed by his club Crystal Palace. England U21 international Mullins has been transfer-listed by manager Alan Smith along with Jamie Smith and Clinton Morrison for an alleged breach of discipline. Town have been linked with Mullins on several occasions over the last year or so with the link particularly strong in the close season prior to 99/00. His availability may raise the Burley eyebrow, although the background to his listing may put the Town manager off. He's never been that keen on troublemakers has he? |
All You Need is Cash! Tue 17th Oct 2000 10:33 As expected Town's annual turnover will increase by more than double this year. Town chairman David Sheepshanks announced that this year's turnover would be around the £22 million mark when revealing Town's annual accounts for last year. Last year Town's annual turnover was £9.957 million which was a rise from the previous year's total of £7.949 million the previous year. |
Town 1 - 1 West Ham Sat 14th Oct 2000 17:36 Town will count this 1-1 draw as points dropped rather than a point won. The Blues missed chance after chance as they largely outplayed West Ham United in a game where Town played most of the football and the Londoners showed a more physical side to their game. A very poor performance by referee Neale Barry aided their approach. |
Bramble Has Nightmare Game Wed 11th Oct 2000 11:14 George Burley last night watched Titus Bramble play in the England U21 match against Finland. |
Deal Not Dead Verheyen Thu 05th Oct 2000 11:21 The negotiations to bring the Belgian international to Portman Road seem to have fallen through, but the player himself has not yet given up hope. "I am really disappointed and I will be looking to see what the options are. I'm still very keen on coming to Ipswich. My head is full of all kinds of thoughts and I am not willing to accept that the deal is completely dead." |
Titus Offered Huge Deal Fri 29th Sep 2000 14:27 Town's Man of the Season so far Titus Bramble has been offered a massive new contract by Town. Bramble, who still has two years to run on his current deal, has sat down with Town and his agent, the notorious Jonathan Barnett, to discuss the new five-year deal. And it seems negotiations are going well with Titus likely to be putting his signature to the agreement sooner rather than later. Town will be anxious to tie the young star down for as long as possible given his superb start to the season. Manager George Burley said: "We’re working on it and hope for a successful conclusion." |
Verheyen is the Man! Fri 29th Sep 2000 11:55 The identity of Town's Belgian target now appears to be Gert Verheyen the 30-year-old team-mate of Sven Vermant, the player linked with Town earlier today. Also an attacking midfielder Verheyen was linked with Town two weeks ago, but the story was denied by George Burley. Either the Town manager has changed his mind or someone misunderstood him but the deal for the £1.5 million rated player seems to be on as long as Brugge are happy with the price offered by the Blues. Verheyen's previous clubs include Hoogstraten VV, Lierse and Anderlecht. |
Arsenal to Field Reserves Fri 29th Sep 2000 10:57 Town are likely to face an understrength Arsenal side in October 30th's Worthington Cup tie at Highbury. The North Londers warn fans on their tickets that they are unlikely to field a full stregth side in the competition, although like any of the major players in the Premier League even their reserves are pretty fearsome. Town manager When the suggestion of Arsenal putting out a less than full strength side George Burley said "what's a weak Arsenal side?" a reference to the fact that their bench contains several high profile stars. Burley added that the draw was "a good one for the fans". |
